How to Install Fences

Charleston Fence BuildersWhen installing a fence there are some steps that must be taken first. After you have marked your property lines, and underground utilities, you can begin. You want to space your posts out to about 8 feet (the length of 2 x 4) so that each 2 x 4 meets and butts against one another on the posts. Dig the holes for the posts about 2 ft deep (your posts should be at least 8 ft long) so that you get a 6 ft tall fence. Mix your concrete, set your posts  into the hole and pour the concrete around it, filling up the hole. Make sure all your posts are the same height, which should be 6 ft from ground to top. Wait  a few hours until the concrete sets, before putting on the  2x4 cross boards. Put your cross boards so that each end sits flush in the middle of each post and the ends butt against each other. There should be three three rows of these (bottom, middle, top). After those are installed you can begin to install your pickets. Run a string line attached to a nail across the top or bottom so that you have a reference line for height consistency.

We also install and build ornamental aluminum, and chain link fences throughout the Charleston areas.

Mount Pleasant Wooden Fence BuildersThere are many different styles of wooden fences you could get built, but the most common typeWood Fence Styles, designs Charleston, South Carolina you see are 6 ft dog ear picket fences in standard one side or shadow box where you alternate the side you install each picket. Fences can range in price, but remember the more ornate your fence is the more costly it will be for a couple of reasons. Fences with trim pieces cost more because there is more lumber required to build it, and more labor necessary to construct and design it. If your yard has a lot of trees and bushes that have to be removed that too can add to the cost of having a fence built as your contractor will have to work harder to remove the obstructing plants and trees to install the fence. A wooden privacy fence is one specifically built so that there are no gaps between each picket (board) vs. other styles that are primarily there for look or to contain pets or establish a boundary.

Fencing Contractor Charleston SCThings that are important to consider before you hire fencing contractor to build your fence; is to contact your utility companies to mark the underground lines in your lot making sure to clearly indicate where they are so as not to cut them when installing the posts. SCE&G will come to your home free of charge and mark the lines for you before you dig. Another safe thing to do is to make sure you know exactly where your property lines are, as you do not want to build on your neighbors lot. You need to look around the corners of your lot to see if there are markers (usually rebar) hammered in the ground. You can also look at your survey or community plat map to see where your lot lines are. If you locate your lot corners hammer in a stake and attach a string line to a nail and then go to another stake and run the string along the lot to each corner stake. Good Charleston SC fencing contractors will help you with this process. Many new communites in suburban areas of Mount Pleasant SC will not allow boats, trailers, and/or RVs to be visible in your yard so many people remedy this issue by having a fence built to shield their belongings.
